How to prepare a 3D model for full-color printing
Export a textured GLB, OBJ or ZIP from Blender, an AI generator or any 3D tool so your full-color print keeps its colors.
Updated
We print the colors stored in your file. A model with textures or materials prints in full color; a file with geometry only, such as an STL, has no color to print.
Which file to upload
| File | Use it when | Color comes from |
|---|---|---|
| GLB (recommended) | Your tool can export glTF | Materials and textures inside the one file |
| ZIP | Your model is an OBJ with textures | The OBJ's MTL file and its PNG or JPEG textures |
| OBJ | The model needs no materials or textures | No texture files, so a default appearance |
For other formats, such as FBX, PLY, 3MF or VRML, import the model into Blender and export a GLB. Business accounts can also send these formats during setup.
Export a GLB from Blender
- Choose File → Export → glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf).
- Set Format to glTF Binary (.glb).
- Under Mesh, turn on Apply Modifiers.
- Keep Materials set to Export, so the textures go into the file.
- Export a static model: leave animation, armatures, shape keys and compression off.
Use a model from an AI generator
Tools such as Meshy and Rodin export textured GLB files. Download the GLB with its textures and upload it unchanged. If the tool offers several texture maps, the base color texture is the one we print.
Package an OBJ as a ZIP
- In Blender, choose File → Export → Wavefront (.obj), keep Materials on and set Path Mode to Copy.
- Put the
.obj, the.mtland every PNG or JPEG texture in one ZIP. Keep the folders that the MTL file refers to. - Include only one OBJ in each ZIP, and do not encrypt it.
Limits
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| File size | 400 MB |
| ZIP contents | 200 files, 600 MB unzipped |
| Triangles | 6,000,000 |
| Texture size | 67,108,864 pixels per image (8192 × 8192) |
| Print size | 30–200 mm on the longest side, chosen when you order |
The developer limits list every limit.
Check your model before ordering
After you upload, the workspace shows a textured preview and checks that the model can print.
- The preview has no color: the file has no textures. For a ZIP, add the MTL and texture files and upload it again.
- An appearance fallback warning: we could not read the OBJ's materials or textures. Check the file names in the MTL file, then upload the ZIP again.
- The file is too large: reduce triangles with Blender's Decimate modifier, or save textures as JPEG at a smaller size.
